An olive branch to self-administer, Counterweight is a redemption agent. We are invited from the dust, from our fossilisation, from behind our gritty barricades. Drawn to the current, the natural margins and seasons; to softness and treasuring; back into our chests, our filaments, our lungs. 

Counterweight's multisensory guide to sustainability of the soul is a thing to bathe in and to draw on year after year: kindly wisdom for inhabiting the humming, pulsing world in which we find ourselves.

 

Published as part of a collaborative art exhibition with Jessica's sister, artist Hannah Schickedanz, and featuring one of her stunning paintings on the front cover, Counterweight is a 15 poem collection, 9 of which have been published in journals such as Landfall, Takahe, Turbine/Kopuhou and Poetry Aotearoa Yearbook.
